Social Studies

7th Grade Social Studies
Students will spend the year surveying the human odyssey of the American people just prior to 10,000 B.C., right up to, and including the Civil War. A strong Component of New York State’s History is incorporated within the units. Students will incorporate the growth of our citizenship within the appropriate lessons. Prerequisite: 6th grade Social Studies.

8th Grade Social Studies
Students will spend the year surveying the human odyssey of the American people from immediately after the Civil War and up to the present day. A strong component of New York’s history is incorporated within the units. Students will incorporate the growth of our citizenship within appropriate lessons. Prerequisite: 7th grade Social Studies.

Global Nine History and Geography
Global Nine is a survey course involving the history of early civilizations as they arise in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia, world from their ancient beginnings to the present along with their interactions with Imperialistic Europe. A Regents-style final exam is required at the end of the semester. No prerequisites. One credit.

Global Ten History and Geography
Global Ten is a survey course involving the study of Western Civilizations, Russian History, the Middle East, the Islamic Civilization, and the social, political, and economic revolutions spawned by the Enlightenment. The Regents exam in Global History and Geography is the required final exam. Prerequisites: Global Nine. One credit.

Government
This course will provide the student with a background in the basic structure of governments and their purpose. Development of a working knowledge of the Constitution will provide the student with a basic understanding of the function of the branches of government. Prerequisites: The student should have completed the US History Regents course or is currently enrolled in the course. 0.5 credit.

Economics
This course will provide the student with a basic background in the principles of economics. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the roles of consumers, the business sector, and global economic interdependence of the world’s nations. Prerequisites: The student should have completed the US History Regents course or is currently enrolled in the course. 0.5 credit.

United States History
This course is designed to give the student a comprehensive overview of US History in preparation for the NYS Regents exam. Students will use a variety of skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, themes, eras, and turning points that made up the political, social, and economic development of the US. Prerequisites: The student must have completed Global History. One credit.

Advanced Placement United States History
This course is designed to give the student the necessary background in American History to prepare for the Advanced Placement Exam. Prerequisites: Global Regents and U.S. History Regents; 90+ and POI. College credit with score of 3 or higher depending on college/university.

Advanced Placement World History
AP World History intends to synthesize the concepts of economics, politics, anthropology, sociology, and geography into the king of all disciplines; history. This course will provide an integrated and comprehensive interpretation of the world’s past and will provide the student with an understanding of change and continuity in our world of today. Prerequisites: Global Regents and US History Regents; 90+ and POI. College credit with score of 3 or higher depending on college/university.
