The Guidance and Counseling office at Seton Catholic endeavors to provide services tailored
to meet the specific needs of each student. The School Counselor serves as a student advocate between many people and services involved in a student's educational journey. The counseling department at Seton Catholic Central follows a comprehensive, developmental counseling
program that incorporates students, educators, parents/guardians and the community.
The
Guidance Counselor seeks to meet with students in one-on-one sessions and/or group sessions to provide counseling (academic, personal/social), assign tutoring as necessary,
schedule testing, provide service referrals and advise on college and career options and relay graduation requirements. Parents and students should seek to work in unison with the counselor and are encouraged to keep the counselor informed of any condition that impacts student performance.
Seton's
Guidance and Counseling Department
recognize the importance of course
selection
and long range academic
planning, the Guidance Department
assumes an active role in the scheduling
process by offering assistance to
students, advisors, and parents. There
is a
direct relationship between a
student's course sequence throughout
high school and their
post-secondary
options. Course selection during the
junior and senior years is especially
important.
Students planning to pursue a bachelor's
degree should be enrolled in an
accelerated
college-prep program, a
standard level college preparatory
program, or a combination
thereof. Those
planning to pursue an associate degree
should be enrolled in a standard
level
college preparatory program, and
students seeking a technical education
should
select a combination standard
level college preparatory/technical
education program.
Students preparing
for employment immediately after
graduation should successfully
complete
a major concentration in our technical
programs.
In addition to academic counseling,
Seton's Guidance Department offers a
variety of services
to assist students
to reach their full potential. Personal
counseling, aptitude and achievement
testing, career education, college and
financial aid counseling, are some of
the more important functions.
