Graduation Requirements

The minimum coursework for a standard New York State diploma requires 22 credits. Regents exams are required for all levels

of diploma in English Language Arts, Math A, Global History, U.S. History, and Science.

Levels of diplomas in New York State:

New York State Regents Diploma
Awarded to all students who complete at least 22 credits and achieve passing scores of 65 or above on the required Regents exams. A Regents diploma will be required for students entering grade 9 in 2008 unless they are identified by the Committee on Special Education.

 

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation
Awarded to students who complete all the course and testing requirements of a Regents Diploma plus the following additional requirements:

  • Foreign language - at least 3 credits in the same foreign language plus a score of at least 65 on the Comprehensive foreign language Regents exam OR a 5-unit sequence in art, music, or career technical education.

  • A second Regents examination in Mathematics (Math A & B).

  • A second Regents examination in Science. One exam must be Living Environment and the second can be any of the physical Sciences (Earth Science, Chemistry or Physics).

 

Regents Diploma with Honors
Awarded to students who complete all requirements for the Regents diploma and achieve an average of at least 90% on all Regents exams.

 

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors
Awarded to those students who complete all the requirements of the Regents diplomas with Advanced Designation and achieve an average of at least 90% for all Regents exams.
